Contributing back to our geoscience community
Aside from my academic pursuits, for the past 10 years, I have been dedicating my time to science outreach and volunteering. I have worked with many international organizations, such as the European Geosciences Union (EGU), the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG), the Geological Society of America (GSA), the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG), amongst others, working as a representative, an outreach coordinator, a science communicator, a conference volunteer, a graphic designer, and a convenor. Furthermore, I co-founded an organization with Dr. Kärt Paiste called, “Rock Archive,” where we use simple illustrations and language to communicate Earth history to the broader public (funded by ERC and soon to be EAG outreach blog).
Motivation: Embracing diversity for a better scientific future
My hope is to continue supporting a diverse, inclusive, and fun geoscience community. By teaching geoscience to a broader public, we can encourage people from around the world to join our geoscience community! I hope to achieve this goal by contributing my time as an editor and a science communicator for different outreach organizations. Furthermore, I strive to communicate complex jargon in geology to the public by using simple illustrations and language. The study of geology is often overlooked in the K-12 educational system, which is one of the many reasons why we lack diversity in our field. Our hope is to get more public engagement to increase diversity, literacy, and excitement in the field of geology.
Current initiatives
I am currently the chair of the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG) communication committee. As a part of the EAG communication committee, we manage Element news, social media accounts, workshops, blogs and more!
I worked as a science communicator (outreach coordinator) and the Editor-in-Chief for the European Geosciences Union (EGU) Climate: Past, present, and future division.
I am a co-founder of ‘Rock Archive,’ a blog to communicate Earth history to the broader public using simple illustrations and language (funded by ERC and soon to be part of the outreach blog for EAG).
